Residents Committee

This committee, one of the most impressive and prominent activities in Iranian Urological Association, will undoubtedly have a very prominent role in training future managers of Urology. The committee has obviously provided the Iranian urology residents with progress, development, education and research. It should be noted that the Committee Directors election has been held every two years with the presence of the urology residents of the country.

·         Preparations for the Urology residents’ participation in the European Board of Urology Exam and European Urology Residents’ Education Program (EUREP)

Detailed Description of the Residents Committee Activities

Participation of the Iranian residents in the European Board Urology Exam and European Urology Residents’ Education Program (EUREP):

In 2005, after signing an agreement among IUA and European Association of Urology (EAU), 5 senior Iranian urology residents, who had succeeded in written and oral English exams, are chosen to participate in European Urology Residents Education Programme (EUREP) as well as the European Board of Urology (EBU) written exam.

Setting Sample OSCE Test for the Senior Residents

To make the residents get familiar with the Board of Urology Exam and decrease the stress they may have, the residents committee had held the experimental OSCE in the presence of the prominent urology board members. After performing the test, the performance of test takers, their answers, the results and the highlights were discussed by the test makers.

To Arrange and Convey Educational Material and Guidelines for the Residents Throughout the Country

The residents committee has proliferated and conveyed training CDs - including more than 80 various surgical videos, e-books, new guidelines, etc.  For the urology residents throughout Iran.

Facilitating Implementation of Buying Campbell-Walsh Textbook for Residents

In recent 12 years, the residents committee has provided facilities for a group registration of buying different editions of Campbell-Walsh Textbook and some financial supports for them.

Participating in National Men's Health Day Commemoration Activities

Iranian Urological Association accompanying with residency committee has held consultation and visiting programs in National Men's Health Day, the first Thursday of March, since 2006.

Investigating the Welfare and Practical situation of Young Graduates and Residents

In an accurate assessment, based on which the present and future policies can be improved, was done to collect, analyze and compare the employment status, specialized equipment and treatment facilities of young urologist graduates in the last ten years with the international standards and developed countries, in a research project.

Adding Young Urologists as Members of the Central Committee of Residency

By considering the fact that many occupational and welfare issues of residents and graduates are closely associated, 2 of young urology graduates are added to the organization of committee, within the discretion of the IUA President, to share their experiences with the committee.

 

 

Translating and Editing the Selected Chapters from New Edition of Campbell-Walsh Textbook

Having been translated and summarized in 2007, some chapters of Campbell were conveyed to all urology residents. The same process has been repeated if needed based on their own evaluation.

Gathering and Providing Data to Rationalize the Total Number of Urology Residents Each Year

The 50 percent increase in the capacity of Urology Residency and being alarmed for the following years, the Residents Committee had raised the issue with Urology Steering Board, Faculty Board of Urology in logical correspondence and documentation, which, fortunately, was met by the positive reaction of all references.
